Sanctuary Hires Matt Ellis as Senior Vice President of Engineering

Vancouver, BC – Jan. 17, 2022 – Sanctuary Cognitive Systems Corporation announced today that it had hired product and technology innovator Matt Ellis as Senior Vice President of Engineering. Reporting to Sanctuary Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Geordie Rose, Ellis will lead the company’s engineering teams. His responsibilities will include overseeing all aspects of hardware and software development associated with building Sanctuary’s unique general-purpose robots and their control systems.

“Matt has more than 25 years of commercial experience in technology and product development spanning artificial intelligence, cloud and edge computing, IoT, machine learning, simulation, high-performance computing, and robotic control systems,” Geordie Rose, Co-Founder and CEO of Sanctuary said. “We are thrilled that Matt is joining the Sanctuary team, and I am personally excited about the impact he will have as we work to achieve our mission to create the world’s first human-level intelligence general-purpose robots.”

Ellis has a demonstrated track record in research and development leadership working at organizations of all sizes, from startups, scaling-up small teams, and transforming thousand-person strong globally distributed teams. He has previously held senior strategic roles in artificial intelligence, data science, and product engineering leadership positions at various organizations, including Amazon, HP, IBM, and multiple startups.

Ellis is a skilled practitioner with a track record of leading enterprise-level digital and data transformations by applying agile, design thinking, lean, and pragmatic product development methodologies. His 25 years of experience spans artificial intelligence, big-data analytics, cognitive computing, computer vision, deep learning, natural language processing, and network science.

Ellis holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from University College London (UCL) and a bachelor’s degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Kent.
