Sanctuary AI Identified as Global Leader in Humanoid Patents
Sanctuary ranks fourth globally for patent holdings for general purpose robotics and dexterous manipulation
It is one of only two startups and emerging growth humanoid companies in the top 15 companies globally
Research from Tech + IP Advisory identified Sanctuary AI, a company on a mission to create human-like intelligence in general purpose robots, as a leader in patents for humanoid robotics. The research focused on patent holdings in two key technology groups: general purpose robots and dexterous manipulation technologies, with Sanctuary AI currently ranking 4th amongst the top 15 companies globally. It found that, “among recognized startups and emerging growth companies in humanoid robotics, only Sanctuary AI and Brain Corp make the list.”
Since it was founded in 2018, Sanctuary has incorporated patents into its approach through external acquisitions and internal research and development. This includes IP assets related to touch and grasping which are vital to creating truly general purpose technology. It now has a growing IP portfolio spanning the lifecycle of the creation of general purpose AI humanoid robots.
“Our team is experienced in bringing world firsts to market, so we understood the importance of IP from the get go,” said Olivia Norton, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Sanctuary AI. “We have been working on the challenge of general purpose AI humanoid robots for longer than most, which means we were able to identify and develop patents for the key technologies needed to bring this vision to life.”
The research notes that Sanctuary holds a position in these two sectors that is “one of the most important globally” and refers to the advantages this will give the company in a global market which is projected to reach over $100 billion in the 2030s.
